Transformer Fire Safety & Protection Systems (Nitrogen Injection Fire Protection System)
Protect your critical power infrastructure with Achyuta Fire Safety’s advanced Transformer Fire Safety & Protection Systems. Expert design, installation and maintenance for oil filled and dry type transformers.
The Critical Need for Transformer Fire Safety
Transformers, especially oil filled types, contain thousands of liters of highly flammable mineral oil. When subjected to electrical faults, short circuits or extreme overheating, this oil can vaporize, ignite and cause explosive fires. A transformer fire not only results in massive financial losses and prolonged power downtime but also poses a severe threat to human life and adjacent facilities.
At Achyuta Fire Safety, we understand that standard fire extinguishers are not enough. You need a dedicated Transformer Fire Protection System designed to detect, suppress and cool in a matter of seconds.
Transformer Fire Safety vs. Fire Protection: The Achyuta Approach
We believe in a holistic approach. We divide our solutions into two interconnected tiers to ensure absolute safety:
- Transformer Fire Safety (Prevention & Early Warning): This includes passive safety measures and advanced early detection systems. We install linear heat detection cables, oil/winding temperature monitors and Buchholz relay integrations to catch anomalies before a fire breaks out. We also design safe oil drainage pits and fire rated barriers to contain spills.
- Transformer Fire Protection (Active Suppression): When a fire ignites, active protection takes over. Achyuta Fire Safety designs and installs robust, automated suppression systems that instantly tackle the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring transformers or control rooms.
Our Transformer Fire Protection Systems
Achyuta Fire Safety offers a range of industry compliant suppression technologies, customized based on your transformer type (Indoor/Outdoor, Oil filled/Dry type) and capacity:
- Nitrogen Injection Fire Protection System (NIFPS) Oil Evacuation System
Nitrogen Injection Explosion prevention & Fire Protection System” is more advanced Transformer prevention for oil immersed transformers in compare to water spray (HVWS) System and Co2 Flooding System.
BENEFITS OF NITROGEN INJECTION AND OIL EVACUATION SYSTEM
On activation, the system extinguish the Fire within seconds.
. It prevent the Transformer from explosion.
. Nitrogen Gas is inert and does not react with transformer oil.
. It is completely Non-Toxic & Non-hazardous.
. It provides best cooling effect to the oil inside the Transformer.
. Forms insulating layer of N2 Blanket on top surface of the oil.
. Less Cost of Installation & Maintenance.
. Environment Friendly.
. Best System for the Areas of water Scarcity.
PRINCIPLE OF EXPLOSION PREVENTION & NITROGEN INJECTION IN THE TRANSFORMER
If the transformer is not working properly, an enormous amount of flammable gases will be created inside the oil tank. As a result, the gas relay closes and the electric breaker switches off. At this moment, the internal pressure of the tank increases due to the thermal inertia.
Once the pressure exceeds and reach at its setting value of the pressure relief valve (PRV), the oil drain valve opens to draw off oil in order to relieve the pressure inside the tank and prevent any explosion and fire by activation the System. Consequently, Nitrogen Injection system is operated immediately.
- High Velocity Water Spray (HVWS) System
The Industry Standard for Outdoor Oil Filled Transformers HVWS systems are specifically designed to tackle Class B (oil) fires. They discharge water at high velocity through specialized nozzles to create a fine, forceful spray. This achieves three critical actions simultaneously:
- Emulsification: Mixes water with the burning oil to smother the fire.
- Cooling: Drastically reduces the temperature of the transformer body and surrounding oil.
- Dilution: Dilutes the flammable liquid below its burning point.
- Medium Velocity Water Spray (MVWS) System
Ideal for indoor transformers or areas where high velocity sprays might cause oil splashing. MVWS provides a dense, medium pressure water curtain that cools the equipment and controls the fire until it is fully extinguished.
- Water Spray with Foam Chamber System (AFFF/AR-AFFF)
For transformers with large oil containment pits, we integrate foam systems. When oil drains into the pit during a rupture, the foam system blankets the surface, cutting off oxygen and sealing flammable vapour, ensuring the secondary pool fire is extinguished rapidly.
Why Choose Achyuta Fire Safety?
- Compliance & Standards: All our systems are designed strictly as per IS 6361, IS 15105, NFPA 15 and OISD standards.
- Custom Engineering: We do not believe in "one size fits all" Our engineers calculate water density, nozzle placement and hydraulic flow rates based on your specific transformer MVA rating and physical dimensions.
- End-to-End Services: From conceptual design and hydraulic calculations to procurement, installation, testing, commissioning and annual maintenance contracts (AMC).
- Minimal Downtime: Our installation processes are planned meticulously to ensure your power operations face the least possible disruption.
- 24/7 Emergency Support: Because electrical fires don't follow a 9-5 schedule, our emergency response team is always on standby.
Don’t Wait for a Catastrophe. Secure Your Transformers Today.
A minor electrical fault, an undetected hotspot or a sudden surge can escalate into a raging inferno in milliseconds. The cost of inaction goes far beyond damaged equipment it translates to prolonged power outages, massive financial setbacks, irreversible environmental hazards and unacceptable risks to human life.
